| Deposit | WORKABLE ORE OCCURS AT 3 DISTINCT GEOLOGIC HORIZONS: 1. BOULDER ORE EMBEDDED IN THE SURFACE CLAY; 2. VEIN ORE IN THE PORPHYRY; 3. CONGLOMERATE ORE OCCURRING IN BEDS BETWEEN THE PORPHYRY AND THE OVERLYING CAMBRIAN SEDIMENTS. VEIN ORE INCLUDES BRECCIA ORES. WIDTH AND BOTTOM FIGURES ARE FOR VEIN ORE. AT THE OPEN CUT AT LITTLE MOUNTAIN, THERE OCCURRED A 30 TO 40 FT. VEIN OF SOLID ORE, DIPPING ABOUT 40 DEG SW, EXTENDING 360 FT. DOWN DIP AND 420 FT. ALONG STRIKE. WORKING CEASED AT IRON MOUNTAIN IN 1966 . BEDS OF BOULDER ORE ARE FOUND EXCLUSIVELY ON THE EASTERN SLOPE OF BIG MT. ( NASON, 1896 ). |
