  • THE MESOZOIC SEDIMENTS IN THE BASE OF THE PIT CONTAIN SMALL QUANTITIES OF HEAVY MINERALS. THE DEPOSIT ITSELF IS A GREY SAND COMPOSED OF A MODERATELY HOMOGENEOUS MIXTURE OF QUARTZ AND HEAVY MINERALS.THE CONTACT BETWEEN DEPOSIT AND THE UNDERLYING WHITE SAND IS NEARLY HORIZONTAL.

  • UNTIL 1972 ORE WAS CONCENTRATED AT THE MINE FACE AND THEN PUMPED TO AN ILMENITE SEPARATION PLANT. IN 1973 A DREDGE WAS BROUGHT INTO OPERATION ON THE DEPOSIT. ILMENITE IS SHIPPED FROM BUNBURY TO BURNIE, TASMANIA.HEAVY MINERALS GRADES UP TO 50 % BY WEIGHT OCCUR ON THE WESTERN SIDE OF THE DEPOSIT.
