  • ONE SHAFT SUNK AND OPEN PITS DUG. IN 1974, SIX CAVED PITS, TRENCH CUT, AND COVERED DUMPS EVIDENT.

Comments on development

  • PLACER GRAVELS WERE EXTENSIVELY WORKED BEFORE THE CIVIL WAR AND 3 QUARTZ VEINS WERE OPENED UP. ONE OF THESE WAS WORKED TO SOME EXTENT BY OPEN PITS AND A SHAFT 13 M (42 FT) DEEP. AFTER THE WAR THE VEINS WERE REOPENED AND A 10-STAMP MILL BUILT NEAR THE BRANCH, MOST OF THE WORK WAS DONE A SHORT DISTANCE NORTHEAST OF THE MILL WHERE A SERIES OF SHAFTS AND PITS WERE DUG, EXTENDING FOR ABOUT 137 M (450 FT) IN A DIRECTION N45DEGE. THERE ARE SEVERAL PITS LOCATED ABOUT 0.4 KM (0.25 MI) NORTHWEST, SAID TO HAVE BEEN OPENED ON A SMALLER VEIN THAT WAS VERY RICH.
