  • WORKINGS CONSISTED OF SURFACE PITS AND SHALLOW SHAFTS (UP TO 6 M (20 FT.) DEEP). ONE ADIT EXTENDED 35 FEET INTO HILLSIDE. ONE LARGE PIT MEASURED 60 FT LONG, 12.2 M (40 FT) WIDE, AND 6.1 M (20 FT) DEEP. MANY OTHER SMALLER PITS.

Comments on development

  • NORMA IRON COMPANY STARTED OPERATIONS BEFORE 1886 AND DEVELOPED THE "OUTBURST OPENINGS" FOR IRON ORE. PROPERTY WAS THEN SOLD TO THE CLINCH VALLEY COAL AND IRON COMPANY. NO INFORMATION WAS GIVEN ON PRODUCTION WHILE THEY OWNED THE PROPERTY. THE PULASKI IRON COMPANY THEN BOUGHT THE PROPERTY AND OPENED THE NORMA MINE IN 1905. IRON ORE WAS PRODUCED.
