| Deposit | RED-YELLOW CLAY CONTAINING BARITE AND CHERT NODULES MAKES UP THE UPPER PART OF THE PIT. IN THE LOWER PART DOLOMITE PINNACLES WERE FOUND. NO CHERT WAS SEEN IN THE BEDROCK. BARITE ALSO OCCURS AS THIN VEINS WHICH CEMENT LARGE MASSES OF DOLOMITE AND AS IRREGULAR REPLACEMENT MASSES. BARITE IS SOMETIMES BLACK DUE TO IRON STAINING AND WHEN TWO PIECES ARE HIT TOGETHER THEY SMELL OF H2S, THIS BARITE IS MORE ABUNDANT IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE PIT. SOME METAL SULFIDE (PYRITE?) MINERALIZATION CAN BE OBSERVED IN SMALL POCKETS IN THE DOLOMITE BRECCIA IN THE PINNAACLES. |
