  • FAIRLY SMALL PROSPECT. OPEN CUT INTO HILLSIDE TRENDING N 80 DEG E, IS APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET WIDE, 40 FEET LONG INTO HILLSIDE, AND 10 FEET HIGH (DEEP) AT END, WITH MINOR DUMP MATERIAL IN THE OUTSLOPE AND IN THE CUT. OPEN CUT IS MOSTLY FILLED IN AND GROWN OVER. FIELD EXAMINATION WAS CONDUCTED 12/4/85.

  • PROSPECTING (AND MINING) CONDUCTED IN THIS PART OF THE BARITE DISTRICT NORTHEAST OF MARION IN 1875. OTHERF NEARBY DEPOSITS WERE DISCOVERED FROM 1985 TO 1885. THE ORIGINAL WORKINGS WERE PARTLY FILLED WITH ROCK DEBRIS BY 1938.

Deposit BARITE OCCURS IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE STREAM IN THIN IRREGULAR VEINS AND REPLACEMENT MASSES, THE BARITE IS COARSELY CRYSTALLINE. IT IS BELIEVED THE PROSPECT WAS IN BEDROCK AND RESIDUAL CLAY (?). DEPTH AND DIMENSIONS OF THE BARITE OCCURRENCE IS NOT KNOWN. COARSE BARITE MASSES AND CRTYSTAL CLUSTERS FOUND IN DUMP ALONG WORKINGS.
