PROSPECT IS ABOUT 15 FEET ABOVE CREEK LEVEL, CUT INTO WALL SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTH FORK OF HOLSTON RIVER. ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :(1988)

  • WATSON (1905) AND CURRIER (1935) DESCRIBE AN OPEN PIT AND INCLINED SHAFT. FIELD INVESTIGATION CONDUCTED 2/10/88. AN OPEN CUT 40 FEET LONG, 15 FEET WIDE, AND 20+ FEET DEEP AT THE HIGHWAY DRIVEN N 60 DEG W, AND A WATER FILLED SHAFT IN THE OPEN CUT WAS LOCATED. OPEN CUT IS NOW MOSTLY FILLED WITH TRASH AND GROWN OVER. SMALL, WEATHERED OUTSLOPE DUMP WITH SMALL FRAGMENTS OF BRECCIATED DOLOMITE FOUND BELOW OPEN CUT.

  • IN 1904 AND 1905 THE VIRGINIA LEAD AND ZINC COMPANY PROSPECTED THE SITE AND SUNK A SHAFT 16.2 M (53 FT) DEEP AND DUG ONE PIT. NO PRODUCTION OCCURRED.
