Current site name Morton Ranch Uranium Mine
Alternate or previous names Morton Ranch Uranium Project, Morton Ranch, Morton Ranch-No.2, Morton Ranch-No.1

Comments on the site identification

  • Morton Ranch is a huge uranium project. The northern parcel is 3500 acres, the southern parcel is 21,500 acres. In addition there are smaller scattered tracts of land. The northern parcel is mostly in T36N, R73W, Secs. 11 S2), 12, 13, 14, 23 (N2), 24 (N2). Southern parcel is mostly in T35N, R71W, Secs. 7 (S2), 18, 19, and 30; T35N, R72W, Secs. 1-16, 22-26, 35; T35N, R73W, Secs. 1, 2, 11, 12; T36N, R72W, Secs. 31-35, T36N, and R73W, Sec. 36.
  • Identification and location are problematic. There are 2 old Morton Ranches on USGS maps of the area (see USGS Bull. 1147-d, Plate 1, south half), Morton Ranch (T72W, R33N, approx. Sec. 24-25) and Morton Ltd. (T71W, R36N, approx. Sec. 31). Very little is known about the original tiny prospects called Morton Ranch and their locations. Most information pertains to the much larger projects.
  • A well-documented report on the Converse County Uranium Project (NI-43-101, prepared for New Horizon Uranium Corporoation on behalf of Crossroads Explorations Inc, May 23, 2006, revised Dec. 22, 2006 by RW Rozelle (Gustavson Associates) uses the name Morton Ranch as a precursor to "Scott Ranch". This is clearly not the same Morton Ranch. Scott Ranch area is in The SW part of T32N, R70W. This is well south of the T35N pf the southern/main parcel.
  • South Morton Mine indicated MSHA 4801117 as the same deposit. That is for the Golden Eagle Mine which is about 4 miles east of the North Morton Mine. The Golden Eagle is NOT part of the Morton Ranch property.
