Comments on the location information

  • IN LITTLE FORT RECREATION AREA, IN THE WOODS JUST NORTHWEST OF THE PARKING LOT TO THE PICNIC AREA. SAME LOCATION AS THAT GIVEN FOR THE LITTLE FOR MINE BY MORRILL (1972), THUS IT IS BELIEVED THE TWO ARE ONE IN THE SAME. LITTLE FORT MINE IS PROBABLY A NAME GIVEN BY MORRILL TO THE WORKINGS HE FOUND.

Comments on the workings information

  • WORKINGS CONSISTED OF OPENCUTS, SHAFTS AND PITS. ONE SHAFT WAS 7.6 M (25 FT) DEEP, WITH A 6-M (20 FT) LONG DRIFT TO THE NORTHWEST FROM THE SHAFT, AND ANOTHER TO THE SOUTHEAST TO THE BARREN SANDSTONE WALLS ON EITHER SIDE. IN 1982 A CAVED SHAFT, 4.6 M (15 FT) IN DIAMETER AND 2 M (6 FT) DEEP, AN OPENCUT ABOUT 1.5 M (5 FT) DEEP AND DUMPS WERE EVIDENT. SOME MANGANESE CRUSTS ON SANDSTONE WERE SEEN ON THE DUMPS.

Comments on development

  • D. CAMERON PROSPECTED BY OPENCUTS SOME TIME BEFORE 1916. IN 1916 THE STOCKWOOD REALTY CORP. PROSPECTED FOR MANGANESE BY PITS AND SHAFTS. ORE WAS NOT FOUND IN COMMERCIAL QUANTITY AND THE PROSPECT HAS NOT BEEN WORKED SINCE.
