Comments on the workings information

  • A TUNNEL WAS DRIVEN INTO THE RIDGE, TRENDING NORTHWEST AND WAS AT LEAST 40 M (132 FT) LONG. IN 1982, A CAVED TUNNEL AND DUMP WERE SEEN. NO ORE WAS SEEN ON THE DUMP.

Comments on development

  • STOSE AND MISER VISITED THE PROPERTY ON JULY 18, 1920 WHEN WORK APPARENTLY WAS STILL IN PROGRESS ON THE TUNNEL. THEY STATED THE TUNNEL NEEDED TO BE EXTENDED ANOTHER 15 TO 23 M (50 TO 75 FT) TO PASS THROUGH THE SANDSTONE INTO THE UNDERLYING NEW SCOTLAND LIMESTONE, THE UPPER PART OF WHICH WAS DEEPLY WEATHERED. THIS WEATHERED ZONE WAS WHERE MANGANESE ORE OCCURRED AT MINERAL RIDGE AND IT WAS HOPED THE SAME CONDITIONS WOULD BE FOUND HERE. ACCORDING TO MONROE (1942) THE TUNNEL WAS NEVER EXTENDED FAR ENOUGH TO REACH THE WEATHERED ZONE OR THE NEW SCOTLAND LIMESTONE.
