Comments on the geologic information

  • ORE OCCURS IN BRECCIA, FORMING A CARBONATE CEMENT IN PLACES; IN OTHER PLACES QUARTZ FORMS THE CEMENT. THE "CHERT" IS STRATIFIED AND UNBROKEN IN SOME PLACES. THE CHERT ALSO CONTAINS FRAGMENTS OF SACCAPROIDAL SANDSTONE. NUMEROUS CAVITIES WHICH FORMERLY HELD SPHALERITE WERE FOUND EMPTY OR FILLED WITH RED CLAY WITH 1.1% METALLIC ZINC.

Comments on the workings information

  • OPEN CUT YIELDING ORE 450 FEET SW OF DEEP SHAFT (SHAFT IS W NE 40 OF SECT. 21); AND ANOTHER 300 FEET SW OF THAT IS ANOTHER OPEN CUT WHICH YIELDED ORE. A FEW YARDS SW FROM THE LATTER IS THE MAIN OPENING OF THE "BONANZA EIGHTY", SOURCE OF MOST SHIPPED ORE.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit DEPOSIT RESTRICTED TO BRECCIAS IN BOONE FM., AT SURFACE AND UNDERGROUND LOCATIONS
Deposit FORMATION IN 1892 WAS BELIEVED TO BE OF ORDOVICIAN AGE. HISTORY OF RECORDS FOR EARLY ARKANSAS MINING IS SKETCHY, POOR, AND UNRELIABLE. ALSO, WHAT WAS SIMPLY CALLED 'CHERT' COULD BE A DOLOMITE WHICH HAS BEEN ALTERED BY SOLUTION-BRECCIATION ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT
