  • A SHAFT 77 FEET WAS NOTED AS BEING 250 YARDS S. 30 DEGREES E. FROM SHAFT #2 OF THE BEAR HILL MINES THIS SHAFT STRIKES A CALCAREOUS ORE-BEARING SANDSTONE AT 20 FEET, FOUR FEET THICK, AND A FINE-GRAINED, BRECCIATED SANDSTONE BEARING ORE, TEN FEET THICK AT 55-65 FEET DEPTH. OPENING 2 IS 150 YARDS N. 20 DEGREES E FROM THE SHAFT, AND IS ABOUT 15 FEET HIGHER. IT IS AN OPEN CUT HILLSIDE 20X10', 6 DEEP, IN A CLAYFILLED CAVERN IN THE ORDOVICIAN LIMESTONE, SPHALERITE AND SMITHSONITE OCCUR IN DOLOMITE FRAGMENTS IN THE CLAY.
