Comments on the commodity information

  • Record listed Mercury (Hg) as a secondary mineral in the county, but not necessarily at this site. A.B. Wilson changed Hg to Tertiary at this site--it could perhaps be removed entirely. There is no suggestion that there is any commodity here but gold. Above the single sentence description of the placer is a mention of mercury: "gold and mercury occur in the Pinyon conglomerate (Paeocne), conglomerates and finer-grained rocks of the Harebell formation (late Cretaceous), and in alluvial deposits derived from these formations. Preliminary sampling tests indicate that the gold content ranges from less than 20 ppb (parts per billion) to 660 ppb ($1.08/yd3) and the mercury content from less than 10 ppb to 120 ppb. (Bull. 50, p. 91)

Analytical data

Result PRELIMINARY TESTS INDICATE THAT THE GOLD CONTENT RANGES FROM LESS THAN 20 PPB TO 660 PPB ($1.08/YD) AND THE MERCURY CONTENT FROM LESS THAN 10 PPB TO 120 PPB.
