Comments on the workings information

  • IN 1872 SEVERAL NEW SHAFTS WERE SUNK. NORTHERMOST SHAFT HAD AN ADDIT TUNNEL DRIVEN IN FROM THE WEST THAT RAN 150 FEET THROUGH A HARD GRAY GNEISS. ABOUT 300 YDS SW OTHER SHAFTS WERE MADE IN A VEIN 8 FEET WIDE. NO ORE WAS SHIPPED IN 1872 AND NO SYSTEMATIC MINING WAS ATTEMPTED. IT IS NOT KNOWN WHETHER ANY EXTENSIVE EXPLORATIONS WERE MADE LATER BUT IT SEEMS THE MINE NEVER SHIPPED MORE THAN A SMALL AMOUNT OF ORE. 1943 FIELD WORK FOUND A MINE TUNNEL 50 FEET OR MORE IN LENGTH DRIVEN INTO THE HILLSIDE TO INTERCEPT AN OLD MINE SLOPE

Comments on development

  • OLD MINE OPENED IN EARLY 1800'S. REOPENED IN 1872. RE-EXAMINED IN 1943 BUT DUE TO SMALL AMOUNT OF ORE SEEN IT WAS NOT DEVELOPED
