  • SEVEN OF 14 OREBODIES DETERMINED BY GROUT TO CONTAIN MORE THAN 1 MILLION TONS OF TI-FE ORE ARE INCLUDED IN THE SMOKE LAKE DEPOSIT. BEYOND THE 14 DEPOSITS HE NOTED CONTAINING 81.6 MILLION TONS OF RESOURCES, GROUT (1950) ESTIMATED THAT ABOUT 50 ADDITIONAL SMALL DEPOSITS WERE LOCATED IN COOK COUNTY WITH AN INFERRED TONNAGE OF 552,000 TONS OF TITANIFEROUS MAGNETITE. THESE DEPOSITS ARE TOO SMALL AND TOO LEAN TO BE OF COMMERCIAL INTEREST.

  • THE DEPOSIT FORMS AN ARC APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES IN LENGTH.

  • WINCHELL (1897) REPORTED THAT THE TITANIFEROUS IRON ORES OF THE DULUTH COMPLEX WERE DISCOVERED ABOUT 1867, ABOUT THE SAME TIME AS THE MESABI RANGE IRON ORES.
