Analytical data

Result CHIP ASSAYS: 0.40 OZ AG
Result 0.03% CU
Result 66.5% FE. QUALITATIVE ANALYSES INDICATE THAT THE LIMESTONE SHOULD YIELD A GOOD GRADE OF LIME (FETTKE, 1924, P. 1035).

    Stratigraphic age (youngest) Early Cretaceous
  • Host or associated Host
Rock type Sedimentary Rock > Carbonate > Limestone

Nearby scientific data

Economic information

Controls for ore emplacement

  • The Magnetite Deposit Occurs In The Upper Portion Of The Limestone, Just Below Its Contact With The Overlying Andesite.

Comments on the geologic information

  • THE OUTCROP OF THIS DEPOSIT, THOUGH NOT VERY CONSPICUOUS AT THE SURFACE, IS OF CONSIDERABLE INTEREST BECAUSE THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE MAGNETITE, AND CONTACT METAMORPHIC MINERALS ASSOCIATED WITH IT, TO THE COLLORES LIMESTONE IS BROUGHT OUT MORE CLEARLY THAN AT DEPOSITS NO. 1, 2, 4, AND 5. THE SAN LORENZO BATHOLITH LIES ABOUT 1/3 MILE TO THE SOUTHWEST.

Mining district

District name Humacao District

Comments on the production information

  • LIMESTONE HAS BEEN QUARRIED; QUALITATIVE ANALYSES INDICATE THAT THE LIMESTONE SHOULD YIELD A GOOD GRADE OF LIME (FETTKE, 1924, P. 1034-5).

Comments on development

  • A SMALL QUARRY HAS BEEN OPENED FROM WHICH LIMESTONE HAS BEEN TAKEN FOR BURNING INTO LIME FOR LOCAL USE.

Deposit THE MAGNETITE ASSOCIATED WITH METAMORPHOSED LIMESTONE OCCURS NEAR THE TOP OF A NORTHWEST-SOUTHEAST RIDGE. NUMEROUS OUTCROPS OF NEARLY PURE CRYSTALLINE LIGHT GRAY AND WHITE LIMESTONE APPEAR ON THE SOUTHWEST FLANK OF THIS RIDGE. THE STRIKE OF THE FORMATIONS IS N 54 W AND THE DIP 32 NE. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THE LIMESTONE IS AT LEAST 250 FT. THICK.
