Subject category Comment text
Deposit THIS IS THE LARGEST OF THE LEAD-ZINC MINERALIZED ZONES OF THE JABAL DHAYLAN REGION. MIOCENE REEF LIMESTONES, OVERLYING A BASEMENT HIGH, CONTAIN DISSEMINATED SPHALERITE AND PYRITE; ZINC AND MANGANESE OXIDES ALSO OCCUR, IN BEDS AND AS CAVITY LININGS, AND GALENA FILLS FRACTURES. METAL GRADES AND THE THICKNESS OF THE MINERALIZED INTERVAL DECREASE AWAY FROM THE BASEMENT HIGH. TO THE WEST, THE REEF LIMESTONE IS REPLACED BY AN EVAPORITE SEQUENCE. MINERALIZATION APPEARS TO BE RESTRICTED TO AREAS IN WHICH REEF LIMESTONES DEVELOPED ON BASEMENT HIGHS. THESE ARE OF LIMITED EXTENT.
