  • 200 FT N. AND 800 FT W. OF THE EAST QUARTER CORNER OF SEC. 24, AN ADIT ON E. SIDE OF RAVINE, 5 FT HIGH, 10 FT WIDE, AND 40 FT LONG, INCLINED EASTWARD, WITH CHALCOCITE, MALACHITE, HEMATITE, AND FOSSIL WOOD; ABOUT 600 FT NNW OF OLD HOUSE SITE ON HILL. OPENED IN 1903. GOULD AND OTHERS (1908, P. 78-79) MENTIONED THAT NEAR PERRY SMALL NUGGETS OF NATIVE COPPER THE SIZE OF A HAZELNUT OCCUR IN RED-BROWN SHALE. POSSIBLY, THIS WAS THE LOCALITY. IN SOME INSTANCES, TUNNELS WERE DRIVEN AS MUCH AS 50 FT INTO THE CLAY BANKS, AND SEVERAL GALLONS OF COPPER NUGGETS WERE SECURED. MENTIONED BY BRANSON, BURWELL, AND CHASE (1955, P. 13).
