  • GEOL.DESC: MANGANIFEROUS CHERT; STRIKES N 30DEG. W & DIPS 30DEG. NE. INDIVIDUAL SMALL SPECIMENS MIGHT RUN 45% MANGANESE, BUT ANY QUANTITY OF THIS MATERIAL IS DOUBTFUL. MANGANESE ORE OCCURS AS NARROW POCKETS IN MASSIVE RED TO YELLOW-BROWN CHERT. POCKETS ARE GENERALLY A FRACTION OF AN INCH UP TO A FEW INCHES THICK. THE ORE CONSISTS OF BLACK OXIDES, MAINLY PSILOMELANE, AND SOME NEOTOCITE (?).
