Comments on the workings information

  • ON JULY 18, 1920 THE TUNNEL WAS 18.3 M (60 FT) LONG AND BEING EXTEDED IN A NORTHWEST DIRECTION. IN 1982, A CAVED TUNNEL AND DUMP WERE EVIDENT, NO ORE WAS SEEN.

Comments on development

  • WORK HAD RECENTLY BEGUN WHEN STOSE AND MISER (1922) VISITED THE PROSPECT ON JULY 18, 1920. A TUNNEL WAS BEING DRIVEN THROUGH THE RIDGELEY SANDSTONE WITH THE HOPE OF FINDING MANGANESE ORE IN THE UNDERLYING BEDS, PROBABLY RESIDUAL CLAY AND CHERT ABOVE UNWEATHERED NEW SCOTLAND LIMESTONE, AS AT MINERAL RIDGE. MONROE (1942) REPORTED THE TUNNEL HAD STOPPED IN SANDSTONE AND NO MANGANESE ORE WAS FOUND.
