  • THE OREBODY IS ASSOCIATED WITH A SMALL NICKEL BEARING ULTRABASIC INTRUSIVE AT ABOUT 300 M ELEVATION. UNDER TROPICAL WEATHERING CONDITIONS NICKEL IS LEACHED BY SLIGHTLY ACIDIC RAINWATER FROM THE UPPER ZONES AND REDEPOSITED AS SILICATES (SERPENTINES, I.E. GARNIERITE) IN THE LOWER ZONES.

Deposit THE SMELTER IS TO BE BUILT AT KOUMAC BY SOMMENI.DESIGNED OUTPUT RATE IS ABOUT 18.000 METRIC TONS PER YEAR NICKEL CONTAINED IN FERRONICKEL, AND A POSIBLE OUTPUT RATE (1984) OF 36.000 TPY CONTAINED NICKEL. THE FERRONICKEL WILL CONTAIN ABOUT 35 % NICKEL.
