  • ORE WAS SAID TO AVERAGE $40.00/TON IN GOLD (LATE 1800'S). A MILL EXISTED HERE IN LATE 1800'S. RUINS STILL PRESENT IN 1966, REPORTED TO HAVE OPERATED IN 1930'S.
  • BORAX WAS PRODUCED FROM THE MARSH AS EARLY AS 1873, IN 1875 PACIFIC BORAX CO.MOVED ITS PLANT TO FISH LAKE VALLEY FROM COLUMBUS, AND BORATE DEPOSITS WERE WORKED FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS THEREAFTER. OPERATIONS WERE SUSPENDED SHORTY AFTER 1883.

Deposit PRODUCTION LARGELY FROM NEAR SURFACE ULEXITE NODULES, BUT ALSO SOME PORDUCTION FROM BORAX EFFLORESCENCE.
