IN 1911, TWO QUARRIES, WEST QUARRY 1500 FEET LONG EAST TO WEST, 800 FEET WIDE, 70 FOOT HIGH WORKING FACE; EAST QUARRY 2000 FEET LONG EAST TO WEST, 400 FEET WIDE, 70 FOOT HIGH WORKING FACE. WEST QUARRY HAS NEARLY HORIZONTAL PLICATED GNEISSIC FOLIATION. SHEETS 2 TO 8 FEET THICK ARE HORIZONTAL OR DIP 10 DEG. NE. PEGMATITE DIKES PRESENT, ONE TO THREE FEET THICK. SOME DIKES OR BANDS OF FINE BIOTITE GRANITE GNEISS AS MUCH AS 4 INCHES THICK. ROCK MEDIUM TO DARK REDDISH GRAY COLOR, COARSE TO VERY COARSE BANDED PLICATED GNEISSOSE PORPHYRITIC TEXTURE. STONE EXPORTED FOR MANY USES
