Comments on the geologic information

  • FOLDING; CHROMITE OCCURS AS SHEET-LIKE BODIES IN 7 SUBPARALLEL STRATIGRAPHIC LEVELS IN THE SUKINDA MASSIF, A LAYERED ULTRAMAFIC STOCK WHICH STRIKES ENE. THE MASSIF IS INTRUDED INTO A QUARTZITE MEMBER OF AN IRON FORMATION AND CONSISTS OF AN OLDER, CHROMIUM-RICH (1250 M) AND A YOUNGER, CHROMIUM-POOR (450 M) SEQUENCE. THE REGION IS FOLDED, FORMING A LARGE SW-PLUNGING SYNCLINE. THE CHROMITE ORE BODIES ARE FORM TRANSITIONAL BETWEEN LENTICULAR MASSES (20 M BY 10 M) AND FLAT SHEETS (1200 M BY 10 M), CONFORMABLE TO PRIMARY LAYERING. GRAIN SIZE OF CHROMITE DECREASES FROM BOTTOM TO TOP, ALONG WITH A DECREASE IN CR2O3 AND MGO. PGE CHEMISTRY SIMILAR TO PODIFORM-TYPE DEPOSITS.
