Deposit PLACER GOLD, CINNABAR, AND SCHEELITE OCCUR IN QUATERNARY GRAVELS IN AND ADJACENT TO IMLAY CANYON. MOST PRODUCTIVE -GRAVELS ARE HOLOCENE, 1-2 M THICK, RESTING ON OLDER GRAVELS WH-ICH ARE LOCALLY FE-OXIDE STAINED AND CEMENTED BY CALICHE TO VA-RYING DEGREES. GRAVELS REST ON PHYLLITE OF GRASS VALLEY FM. OL-DER GRAVELS CONTAIN SOME GOLD, BUT GENERALLY NOT ENOUGH TO PAY- FOR MINING IT. BEST VALUES OCCUR IN THIN YOUNGEST GRAVELS WHI-CH ARE UNCONSOLIDATED AND MODERATELY WELL-SORTED, OVERLYING OL-DER, SEMI-INDURATED, POORLY SORTED GRAVELS.
Deposit PLACER MINING ACTIVITY IN THE IMLAY DISTRICT WAS RESTRICTED TO SMALL-SCALE DRY WASHING OF GRAVELS. PLACER GOLD RECOVERED BY DRY PLACERING. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
