  • THE HOST ROCKS ARE MAINLY METAMORPHOSED TO THE GREENSCHIST FACIES, BUT TO THE EAST NEAR JACARACI THE METAMORPHIC GRADE INCREASES TO THE KYANITE SUBFACIES OF THE AMPHIBOLITE FACIES. THE KYANITE IS CLOSELY ASSOCIATED WITH GRAPHITIC PHYLLITES. POSSIBLY COMMERCIAL GRADE KYANITE DEPOSITS OCCUR IN THE MANGANESE DISTRICT 4 TO 5 KM SE OF JACARACI ON THE FAZENDA FERREIRA CRUZ. THE BLACK KYANITE CRYSTALS ARE UP TO 4 CM LONG AND ARE RESIDUAL CONCENTRATIONS IN LATERITIC SOIL. THE UNWEATHERED RK IS GRAPHITIC PHYLLITE INTERBEDDED WITH QUARTZITE.

Deposit THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF DEPOSITS: ONE HIGH IN SIO2 AND LOW IN FE; ONE HIGH IN FE AND LOW IN SIO2. THE FE-RICH DEPOSITS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH BANDED IRON FORMATION; THOSE RICH IN SILICA WITH SCHISTS, QUARTZITES, AND GONDITES.
