  • GEOL.DESC: MANGANESE ORE BODIES LIE ALONG THE CONTACT BETWEEN CHERTY SLATE AND A HIGHLY ALTERED IGNEOUS ROCKS (GREEN DIABASE, FINE GRAINED DIORITE (METADIORITE?) AND A GREEN PORPHYRITIC ROCK (GREENSTONE)). GENERAL CHERT AND SLATE BELT IS BORDERED BY SERPENTINE ON THE N.E. MOST ORE OCCURS IN A PIPELIKE BODY, AND IN SMALLER LENSES. ORE MINERALS ARE PYROLUSITE, PSILOMELANE, MANGANITE (?), RHODONITE AND RHODOCHROSITE.

  • IN 1940 THERE WAS 1/2 CARLOAD OR LESS OF MANGANESE OXIDE ORE PILED NEAR HOLES. APPARENTLY MORE WAS MINED AS BULL. 125 STATES PRODUCTION TO BE BETWEEN 150 AND 999 TONS. MINE WAS STILL ACTIVE AT THAT TIME (1943)

  • IN 1940, THREE SHALLOW HOLES . IN 1943 THE CUT WAS 340 FT. LONG, 10 TO 30 FT. DEEP AND OTHER SMALLER CUTS HAD BEEN MADE.
