  • GEOL.DESC: BEDDED DEPOSIT IN SLIGHTLY METAMORPHOSED WHITE TO GRAY CHERT. THE CHERT IS BEDDED, 1 TO 4 INCHES THICK, ASSOCIATED WITH SLATY SHALE LAYERS, AND SURROUNDED BY SLATE. THE CHERT AND MANGANESE ORE BEDS STRIKE N 60 TO 80 W, AND DIP 50 TO 65 N. E. THE ORE BED IS OFFSET BY 2 OR 3 CROSS FAULTS WITH DISPLACEMENTS UP TO 4 FT. FAULTS GENERALLY STRIKE N. E. AND DIP N. W. THE ORE BED, 1 TO 2 FT THICK, EXPOSED FOR A LENGTH OF 125 FT AND TO A DEPTH OF 20 FT, CONSISTS OF PARTIALLY TO COMPLETELY OXIDIZED RHODONITE. SOME RESINOUS BROWN OPALINE MATERIAL MAY BE NEOTOCITE OR BEMENTITE. SOME LIGHT BROWN CRYSTALLINE GARNET (?) IS PRESENT.
