Deposit THE DIATOMITE BED IS 20 CM TO 30 CM THICK AND IS OVERLAIN BY 6 CM OF BLACK ORGANIC-RICH CLAY. THE DIATOMITE PROBABLY FORMED IN A LAKE THAT HAD A DIAMETER OF ABOUT 300 M. RESERVES OF DIATOMITE ARE EXTENSIVE IN THE CLOSED BASINS OF THE FORMER UPLAND LAKE SITES OF THE SERRO DO SINCORO.
