Deposit CREDNER (1869) REPORTED A QUARTZ VEIN HAD BEEN OPENED BY A PROSPECT PIT AND AT THE TIME OF HIS VISIT A SHAFT WAS BEING SUNK ON THE VEIN. THE PROSPECT PIT REVEALED THE CHIEF LODE WAS 0.3 TO 1 M (1 TO 3 FT) WIDE, AND TWO SMALLER VEINS PARALLEL TO THE FOOTWALL. THESE VEINS CONSISTED OF WHITE TRANSLUCENT TABULAR QUARTZ, WITH A GREAT DEAL OF EARTHY IRON OXIDE AND CONSIDERABLE GOLD. WASHING THE GOLD PLACERS ON THIS PROPERTY YIELDED ON THE AVERAGE $8 PER DAY WHEN CREDNER VISITED.
