Economic information

Geologic structures

Type of structure Regional
Structure description Walker Lane, In An Area With Right Lateral N20w To N40w Faults Which Correlate With Other Areas Of Possible Mineralization (Boulder, Hottentot, Calico) (Satkoski, P. 78). Nw Faults Offset In Places By Ne Faults.
Type of structure Local
Structure description Shearing. Fault Trending N50e Separates Quartz Monzonite From More Massive Granodionite. Later Quartz Veins.

Ore body information

  • Strike NE
    Dip S

Controls for ore emplacement

  • Multiple Intrusions Causing Contact Metamorphism. Possible Magmatic Differentiation With Higher Chalcophile Metals In Gabbro Than In Surrounding Felsic Intrusives.

Comments on the geologic information

  • SCHRADER (P. 293) REPORTS POSSIBLE GENETIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ORE AND QUARTZ MONZONITE.

Economic information about the deposit and operations

Development status Past Producer
Commodity type Metallic
Deposit size Small

Discovery year 1963

Workings at the site

  • Type of workings Surface/Underground
    Overall depth 100.58M
    Overall length 3218.6M
    Overall width 2413.95M

Comments on the workings information

  • 2 SHAFT SYMBOLS, NUMEROUS PROSPECT AND ADIT SYMBOLS ARE SHOWN ON WEBER DAM 7.5 FT. SCHRADER (P. 293 STATES THAT THE CONTACT ZONE EXTENDS, "FROM THE EUREKA GROUND IN THE NE PART OF THE AREA, WSW ACROSS) THE APPEAL TO REASON AND NEIGHBORING GROUND." COPPER KING SHAFT, IN QUARTZ MONZONITE, IS 17 FT. DEEP. RIOVISTA WAS EXPLORED BY AN 80 FT. ADIT, TO A DEPTH OF 50 FT.

Comments on development

  • 20 HOLES, TOTALLING MORE THAN 6,500 FEET. ROTARY OR CORE DRILLED LOW GRADE BASE METALS WERE FOUND IN DEEPER HOLES. GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY RESULTS WERE REPORTED IN 1970. GEOCHEMICAL SURVEYS FOUND 0.56% AND 0.86% CU (SATKOSKI). WORK ON OLDER PROPERTIES (SYNONYMS) OCCURRED PRIOR TO 1913. ; ECON.COM: THE USBM STUDY (SATKOSKI AND OTHERS P. 80) STATED THAT "FURTHER EVALUATION OF THIS AREA... IS NOT [CURRENTLY (1985)] WARRENTED," BUT NOTES THAT DEEPER BASE METAL VALUES MAY BE OF FUTURE INTEREST.

Deposit SERIES OF 10 OR MORE VEINS THAT STRIKE N75E AND DIP STEEPLY S. A FEW VEINS IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE AREA DIP N. VEINS ARE 3-20 FT. WIDE AND MAY EXTEND FOR 1 MILE. COPPER KING VEIN IS 4 FT. WIDE, DIPS 70 S, REPORTEDLY CONTAINED 10% CU, 30 OZ. AG, AND $2.00 AU/TON (SCHRADER, P. 294). EUREKA LODE IN A SHEAR ZONE, STIKES N60E, DIPS 80S. IT IS LONGER THAN 3,000 FT. AND 60 FT. WIDE IN PLACES. A 10-12 IN. WIDTH OF VEIN REPORTEDLY AVERAGED "50 PERCENT AND 22 OUNCES OF AG AND $3.40 IN GOLD"/TON. TIOVISTA REPORTEDLY CARRIED ORE AVERAGING $6.50 (AU)/TON (SCHRADER).
Deposit AFTERTHOUGHT IS A BLIND PROSPECT. APPARENTLY BENEATH DEPOSITS DESCRIBED BY SCHRADER IP/RESISTIVITY SURVEYS FOUND ANOMALIES IN THIS AREA. THE SPECIFIC LOCATIONS OF COPPER KING, QUINN-NEWMAN, HUNCHBACK, EUREKA, RIOVISTA, MOLALLA ARE NOT KNOWN. THEY ARE INCLUDED HERE ALONG WITH INFORMATION FROM SCHRADER BECAUSE THEY APPEAR TO LIE WITHIN THE MORE RECENTLY IDENTIFIED AFTERTHOUGHT PROSPECT. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT
