Deposit DEPOSIT TYPE INFERRED
Deposit SR. RAUL PEREIRA DA SILVA, OWNER OF FAZENDA BOMFIM, LOCATED ABOUT 30 KM SE OF LAGES, FOUND SCHEELITE IN THE SOIL ON NORTH TRENDING RIDGES BETWEEN THE SERRA DE BOMFIM TO THE EAST AND THE SERRA DO COCO TO THE WEST. SMALL POTS MEASURING 4M X 4M WERE STAKED OUT AND ABOUT 1000 GARIMPEIROS STARTED EXCAVATING SOME 300 PITS (FROM 0.5 M TO 2 M DEEP) TO EXTRACT SCHEELITE CONTAINED IN THE WEATHERED OVERBURDEN. THE ORE GRADE EXCEEDS 2% WO3 IN SOME PITS. THE MINERALIZED ZONE EXTENDS ABOUT 700 METERS FROM N TO S AND IS ABOUT 20 METERS WIDE. THE N LIMIT HAS BEEN DEFINED BY EXAMINATION OF THE SOIL AT NIGHT WITH A MINERALIGHT. THE SOUTHERN EXTENSION OF THE ORE HAS NOT BEEN DEFINED AS OF MARCH 25, 1969. TRAILS ARE BEING CUT IN THE DENSE FOREST GROWTH SO THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE AREA CAN BE PROSPECTED. THE COUNTRY ROCK IS BIOTITE SCHIST WHICH CONTAINS MARBLE AND MARBLE REPLACED BY A FIBROUS AMPHIBOLE MINERAL AND EPIDOTE. THE ALTERED MARBLE IS THE HOST ROCK OF THE SCHEELITE AS DETERMINED BY EXAMINATION
