  • THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT DUE TO THE MINING IS MINIMAL BE- CAUSE A PORTION OF THE TAILINGS ARE RETURNED TO THE MINE. HOWEVER, THE SMELTER HAS BEEN ONE OF THE LARGEST ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS FOR THE MINE, DUE TO SO2 EMISSIONS.
