Comments on the production information

  • A NEW ORE BODY HAS BEEN DISCOVERED APPROXIMATELY 2 KILOMETERS FROM THE EXISTING MINE, ALTHOUGH THERE ARE NO PLANS TO DEVELOP IT AT THE PRESENT. THE POTENTIAL FOR FURTHER DISCOVERIES IN THE AREA IS SAID TO BE GOOD.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • RESERVES AT KAFAN ARE SUFFICIENT FOR A FURTHER 9 YEARS OF PRODUCTION, APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 3.5 MILLION METRIC TONS. THE COPPER GRADE IS EXPECTED TO FALL DURING THIS TIME. THE CUT-OFF GRADE IS 0.7 PERCENT COPPER.

Comments on other economic factors

  • ALL ORE IS DELIVERED BY RAIL TO THE KAFAN CONCENTRATOR WHICH IS 5 KILOMETERS FROM THE MINE.
  • THE KAFAN DEPOSIT IS MINED BY UNDERGROUND METHODS. THE MINE IS ACCESSED BY TWO MAIN SHAFTS OF 14 SQUARE METERS EACH, WITH DEPTHS OF 805 METERS AND 1,035 METERS. THERE ARE ALSO FOUR MAIN ADITS, OF 7 SQUARE METERS EACH. ORE IS EXTRACTED BY SHRINKAGE STOPING AND BY SUB-LEVEL STOPING WITH PILLARS. BACKFILL IS NOT USED. THE CURRENT WORKING LEVELS ARE FROM 820 TO 1,000 METERS. TRACKED HAULAGE IS USED WITH ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES OF SOVIET ORIGIN. ALL OTHER MOBILE EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING SCRAPER WINCHES AND DRILLING RIGS, IS ALSO OF SOVIET ORIGIN.
