Comments on the production information

  • PRODUCT B IS SPLIT UP, AFTER BEING CONCENTRATED AT BEIHAI. 28,200 MT/YR GOES ON TO PORT, AND 1800 MT/YR GOES TO THE SYNTHETIC RUTILE PLANT.
  • BEGINNING, IN 1966, WITH AN ILMENITE PRODUCTION OF 4000 TONS, PRODUCTION HAS INCREASED, TO DATE, TO ABOUT 35,000 TONS (ILMENITE CAPACITY). ALSO DURING THIS PERIOD, THE BEIHAI PLANT HAS ACQUIRED THE CAPABILITY TO RECOVER SMALL QUANTITIES OF ZIRCON, MONAZITE, AND RUTILE.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • IT CAN BE ASSUMED THAT THE ENTIRE COASTLINE FROM BEIHAI TO QINZHOW, A DISTANCE OF ROUGHLY 100 KM, CONTAINS HEAVY MINERALS, OVER A 2 KM WIDE AREA TO A DEPTH OF 2 METERS.

Comments on other economic factors

  • THE PRODUCTS ARE SENT TO EITHER THE BEIHAI PORT OR TO NANNING (270 KM AWAY). IT WAS SPECIFIED WHICH IS MORE PREFERRED. THEREFORE, IT WAS ASSUMED THAT THE CONCENTRATES ARE SENT TO THE PORT, FOR FURTHER DISTRIBUTION WITHIN CHINA.
  • THE SAND IS MINED BY HAND, AND THEN THE LIGHTER MATERIAL IS WASHED AWAY FROM THE HEAVY MINERALS IN A WOODEN SLUICE. THEREFORE, THE STRIP-LEVEL DESCRIPTION IS NOT ENTIRELY SPECIFIC.
  • THE WET/DRY CONCENTRATING PLANT AT BEIHAI IS K1; K2 IS THE SYNTHETIC RUTILE PLANT LOCATED NEARBY. TWO-THIRDS OF THE HEAVY MINERAL CONCENTRATES FEEDING THE BEIHAI PLANT ORIGINATE IN RIVER SAND, RATHER THAN BEACH SAND, DEPOSITS.

Deposit ALL RESERVE NUMBERS, FEED GRADES, ETC. ARE KAISER ESTIMATES, EXCLUSIVELY. INFORMATION FOR THE BEIHAI/GUANGXI DEPOSIT WAS ACQUIRED FROM VISITS TO NANNING BY DAVID ARPI OF KAISER ENGINEERS, DURING THE PERIOD OF MAY 8-11, 1982. THE MINING PROCESS, USED PRESENTLY, WILL PROBABLY NOT CHANGE, BECAUSE ANY MOVE TOWARD MECHANIZED MINING AND PRE- PROCESSING WOULD MEET SEVERE RESISTANCE FROM THE FARMERS WHO BENEFIT FROM THE STATUS-QUO.
