Comments on the production information

  • ONLY 40% OF THE UNREFINED LEAD (RECORD B) COMES FROM THE KALDO PLANT. THE REMAINDER IS FROM THE FLASH FURNACE. THE PRODUCTION OF SULFURIC ACID AND SULFUR DIOXIDE (RECORDS E AND F) IS THE PORTION OF TOTAL PRODUCTION ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE LEAD PLANT. MUCH OF THE LIQUID SULFUR DIOXIDE IS USED TO REINFORCE THE GAS FEED TO THE TWO SULFURIC ACID PLANTS.
  • THE GRADE GIVEN FOR SULFUR IN RECORD E IS FOR SULFURIC ACID. THE GRADE GIVEN FOR SULFUR IN RECORD F IS FOR SULFUR DIOXIDE. ABOUT 90% OF THE SULFUR IN THE RAW MATERIALS FED TO BOTH SMELTERS IS RECOVERED IN BOTH THE SULFURIC ACID AND THE SULFUR DIOXIDE.

Comments on other economic factors

  • MOST OF THE CONCENTRATES ARE FROM THE LAISVALL MINE, WITH MINOR CONTRIBUTIONS COMING FROM THE BOLIDEN, POLARIS, DJEBEL-AOUAM, AND MT. ISA MINES. THE KALDO FURNACE IS FED ENTIRELY BY FLUE DUSTS FROM THE COPPER SMELTER, BUT IT CAN PROCESS CONCENTRATES.
