Comments on other economic factors

  • MINE RECOVERY IS 95%.
  • ACID GRADE CONCENTRATE IS SHIPPED TO PECHINEY CHEMICAL PLANT AT ALES, FRANCE. IF THE PRODUCT WERE TO BE EXPORTED, THE MOST LIKELY PORTS WOULD BE PORT VENDRES FOR SHIPMENT TO ITALY OR SOUTHERN DESTINATIONS AND BORDEAUX FOR SHIPMENT TO NORTHERN EUROPE OR THE UNITED STATES. OLETTE SUPPLIED OUTPUT EXCLUSIVELY TO THE FRENCH MARKET. THE SHORTFALL FROM THE CLOSURE OF OLETTE WILL BE MADE UP BY THE OUTPUT FROM THE MONTROC AND TREBAS PLANTS.

Deposit DATA CONTAINED IN THIS FILE WAS COLLECTED BY DAMES & MOORE UNDER U.S. BUREAU OF MINES CONTRACT #JO225010 IN 1983. DENAIN ANZIN OPERATED OPEN PIT IRON MINES FOR MANY YEARS AT THIS LOCATION, PRECEDED BY MUCH UNDERGROUND TUNNELING, WITH TWO PARALLEL RELATED ORE BODIES, SAHORRE ON THE EAST AND ESCARO TO THE WEST. THE LONGEST STRUCTURE, PLA-MA- GANTE THE ONLY REMAINING ORE BODY IN OPERATION. HIGH LABOR COSTS AND A POOR FLUORSPAR MARKET IMPAIR PROFITABILITY AT THIS OPERATION AS WELL AS THE EXCESSIVE OVERBURDEN REMOVAL COST. ESCARO MINE CLOSED IN 1992 AND PROCESSING PLANT AT OLETTE, WHICH WAS PROCESSING STOCKPILES, CLOSED IN LATE 1993.
