Comments on the workings information

  • THE ALPINE VEGETATION IN THE AREA IS VERY SUSCEPTIBLE TO DAMAGE AND SLOW TO RECOVER. TAILS ARE DUMPED DIRECTLY INTO THE FJORD ADJACENT TO THE PLANT.

Comments on other economic factors

  • CAPACITY SHOWN IS THE PRODUCTION RATE IN 1982, THE BASE YEAR OF EVALUATION. DESIGN CAPACITY IS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 174 MTPD (40,000 MTPY) OF ORE. THE PRODUCTION RATE DECREASES IN 1983 TO ABOUT 113 MTPD AND IS THEN PROPOSED TO INCREASE IN 1984 TO 169 MTPD FOR THE REMAINDER OF MINE LIFE. MINE RECOVERY IS 80%, WHICH IS ALREADY REFLECTED IN THE RESOURCE FIGURES IN THE QUANTITY DATA SET. ALL COSTS IN THIS DATA SET REFLECT THE 1982 PRODUCTION RATE.
  • ORE FROM THE MINE IS HOISTED 300 METERS TO A CRUSHER THEN PLACED IN A SILO WHICH DISCHARGES DIRECTLY INTO THE MILL. THE COST IS INCLUDED IN THE MINE OP. COST. THE BAGGED AND PALLETIZED CONCENTRATE IS TRANSPORTED BY AERIAL ROPEWAY FROM THE MILL DOWN THE MOUNTAIN TO THE TERMINAL WHERE THE PALLETS ARE COVERED BY PLASTIC IN A SHRINK FURNACE. ALL COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS OPERATION ARE INCLUDED IN THE MILL OP. COST. FROM THE TERMINAL, PRODUCTS ARE TRANSPORTED BY SHIP TO VARIOUS DESTINATIONS. PRODUCT DISPOSITION IS TYPICALLY 60% TO THE U.K., 30% TO WEST GERMANY, AND 10% TO THE U.S.A., FRANCE, AND ITALY.
  • DEPOSIT PERCENT AND TOTAL PERCENT USED DATA REFLECT THE PRODUCTION RATE IN 1982, THE BASE YEAR OF EVALUATION. THESE FIGURES DECREASE TO ABOUT 65 PERCENT IN 1983 AND THEN INCREASE TO ABOUT 97 PERCENT IN 1984. THE 97% PRODUCTION LEVEL IS PROPOSED FOR 1984 THROUGH MINE LIFE.
