GOLD ZONES HAVE BEEN HYDROTHERMALLY ALTERED AND CONSIST OF QUARTZ-FLOODED, CARBONITIZED AREAS. GOLD OCCURS BOTH AS NATIVE GOLD AND ASSOCIATED WITH SUL- FIDES. WHERE FOUND IN SULFIDES, IT OCCURS IN NARROWER VEINLETS WHERE PYRITE AND ARSENOPYRITE EXIST. SILVER IS ALSO ASSOCIATED WITH CARBONITIZED AREAS. SULFIDES HAVE BEEN OXIDIZED TO A DEPTH OF 80-100M.

THEY RECOMMEND SURFACE MINING IF APPLICABLE, AND HIGH-GRADING BE GIVEN PRIORITY. SOME DEWATERING MAY BE REQUIRED. Deposit THE MINE OPERATED SINCE 1965, PRODUCING 100,000 MT OF DIRECT SHIPMENT ORE FOR TRANSPORT AS GOLD-BEARING FLUX TO RUSSIAN SMELTERS. ORE IS ESPECIALLY REFRACTORY AND THE GOLD IS LOCKED WITHIN SULFIDES AND COMBINED WITH CARBONACEOUS MATERIAL, MAKING ORE UNTREATABLE USING CONVENTIONAL METALLURGY. LACK OF CAPITAL PREVENTED CONSTRUCTION OF SUITABLE PROCESSING FACILITY TO OPERATE AT THE FULL DESIGN CAPACITY OF 1 MMT/YR. CURRENT INFRASTRUCTURE CONSISTS OF THREE OPEN PITS; PRE- LIMINARY UNDERGROUND DEVELOPMENT, INCLUDING SHAFTS, A TEST CON- CENTRATOR, AND WATER AND POWER INFRASTRUCTURE. THE MINE IS LOCATED IN THE CHARSK REGION, 150 KM FROM SEMIPALATINSK, THE REGIONAL CAPITAL CITY. MINING METHODS CONSIST OF OPEN PIT METHODS, TOP SLICING, AND BLOCK CAVING METHODS. MINE ACCESS IS BY PAVED ROAD(110 KM) FROM SEMIPALATINSK TO CHARSK, AND BY ROAD FROM CHARSK TO THE MINE(45 KM). 13 KM OF THIS ROAD IS PAVED. RAIL LINE FROM SEMIPALATINSK TO CHARSK IS GOOD. DURING THE HARSH WINTER, THE MINE HAS BEEN ISOLATED FOR PERIODS OF 1-3 MONTHS. HOUSING FOR 6,000 RESIDENTS IS AVAILABLE, BUT ADDITIONAL HOUSING IS NEEDED IF EXPANSION OCCURS. THEY MUST BE ABLE TO STAND TEMPERATURES OF -40 TO 40 DEGREES CELSIUS. POWER IS SUPPLIED BY ONE 110 KV LINE AT 220 VOLTS. A SE- COND LINE IS BEING CONSTRUCTED FROM A SOURCE 72 KM TO THE NE. THE 100 MMT RESOURCE ESTIMATE WAS BASED ON ORE DIMENSIONS OF LENGTH 3KM, DEPTH 400M, AND WIDTH 250M. WESTERN SERVICES REPORTS THIRTY-FIVE DEFINED ORE LENSES, RANGING UP TO 500M LONG X 200M DEEP X 40M WIDTH. SPECIFIC GRA- VITY OF 2.7 WAS ASSUMED.
