Deposit KWINANA IS SAID TO RETAIN 50% OF THE SLUDGE GOLD, WHICH IS PROCCESSED AT KALGOORLIE GOLD REFINERY. PLANNED NIO BRIQUETTE PRODUCTION IN 1991 IS 29,000 MT NI CONTAINED. KWINANA CAPACITY IS 35,000 MT NI/YR. THIS DOES NOT ACCOUNT FOR TOTAL WMC NICKEL OUTPUT. KALGOORLIE SMELTER CAPACITY IS 55,000 MT NI(IN MATTE)/YR.-CRU 5/91. A PORTION OF THIS IS SOLD TO SUMITOMO, SHERRITT, AND OUTOKUMPU. IN 1991, 21,000 MT NI (IN MATTE) WILL BE SOLD. 29,000 MT OF CONTAINED NICKEL WILL GO TO KWINANA FOR FURTHER PROCESSING. KALGOORLIE PLANS CAPACITY UPGRADE TO 65,000 MT NI/YR PROBABLE BY 1994. THIS IS TO MEET INCREASED PRODUCTION FROM KAMBALDA AND LEINSTER MINES. THE REFINERY WAS CLOSED IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER 1993 FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND CAPACITY EXPANSION. PRODUCTION OF NICKEL WILL INCREASE DUE TO THE EXPANSION OF THE PROCESSING CAPACITIY AT KWINANA.
