Comments on the location information

  • Location discrepancy. MINOBRAS clearly locates Bison Basin Project in Sec. 15, T26N, R96W in Sweetwater County, but this is not correct according to Larry James. Buffalo Basin itself is about 11 km (6 mi) to the NE of the coordinates given for this deposit. http://wise-uranium.org/uousawy.html (p. 14 of 14), gives location of Bison Basin Project ISL as being in Fremont County. (Location given for Bison Basin mine, deleted MRDS record, was completely erroneous. Do not attempt to use that record to locate the mine.) In a visit by Laurence (Larry) James, to Anna Wilson on Jan. 31, 2012 at USGS, Larry located the Bison Basin on the Sulphur Bar Spring topo. It is clearly in Sec. 25, T97W, R27N. Many prospects shown on the topo in the SE4 of Sec. 25. Larry says at one time there was a power plant on the site, but it is fully reclaimed. Possibly just a concrete pier remains. Bison Basin is in Fremont County, not Sweetwater.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
General OPERATION SUSPENDED IN 1988.
General Deleted MRDS record DE00263 (10021588) suggested that this was a past producer based on the comment "operation suspended in 1988). No proof that this was a productive mine.
General Laurence (Larry) P. James, Golden CO (visited USGS, Lakewood, April, 12, 2011) worked on this property. Suggests contacting Malcom Shannon, in Aurora CO, for more information.
