Comments on the production information

  • THE REMOVAL OF OVERBURDEN AND PILOT-SCALE BENEFICIATION TESTS COMMENCED IN 1954, BUT COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION STARTED ONLY IN 1961. MOBILE EQUIPMENT INCLUDES 16 ROLLER-BIT RIGS, 22 POWER SHOVELS IN THE PIT, RAIL CARS TO MOVE THE ORE, DUMP TRUCKS, AND AN ADDITIONAL 15 POWER SHOVELS OPERATING AT THE WASTE DUMP. THE COST PER METRIC TON OF ORE MINED IN 1990 WAS R1.37. ACCORDING TO THE INTERFAX REPORT ON SEPTEMBER 17TH THROUGH THE 24TH, THE KALMAKYR DEPOSIT PRODUCES 1,500 TO 1,600 KILOGRAMS OF GOLD COMMODITY PER YEAR; AND THE ORE GRADES AT 0.7 GRAMS PER METRIC TON OF ORE. THE MILL CAN ACHIEVE AN 80 PERCENT COPPER RECOVERY, 70 TO 75 PERCENT GOLD RECOVERY, 60 PERCENT SILVER RECOVERY, AND 60 PERCENT MOLYBDENUM RECOVERY. THE KALMAKIR MINE AND MILL RECEIVES ITS POWER FROM THE NATIONAL GRID. COSTS OF POWER IS PRESENTLY 1 ROUBLE/KWH, OR $0.00091/KWH. PRICE IS EXPECTED TO GO UP TO 2 ROUBLES/KWH.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • ORE RESERVES ARE SUFFICIENT FOR AT LEAST 50 YEARS OF PRODUCTION AT THE CURRENT GRADE. THERE IS A PLANT TO LOWER THE CUT-OFF GRADE TO 0.2 PERCENT COPPER, WHICH WOULD RE-CLASSIFY ALL WASTE ROCK AS ORE. THE NEIGHBOURING DALNEYE DEPOSIT, ABOUT 2 KILOMETERS AWAY, COULD THEN BE BROUGHT INTO PRODUCTION WITHIN THE NEXT 8 TO 10 YEARS. THE KALMAKIR AND DALNEYE DEPOSITS WOULD THEN BE WORKED AS ONE VERY LARGE OPEN PIT, USING HIGH CAPACITY MOBILE EQUIPMENT.
  • THE KALMAKIR MINE, WHICH IS ONE OF MANY MINES WHICH ARE A PART OF THE ALMALYSKY COMPLEX, SHARES IN A TOTAL AVERAGE RESERVE OF 1,300,000 TO 1,450,000 METRIC TONS OF COPPER ORE CONTAINING APPROXIMATELY 1,300,000 TO 1,400,000 METRIC TONS OF COPPER METAL. THE KALMAKYRSKOE, ALONG WITH THE CHOKCHARSKOE AND THE KHANDIZINSKOE DEPOSITS, SHARES A TOTAL CADMIUM RESOURCE OF APPROXIMATELY 200,000 TO 300,000 METRIC TONS OF CADMIUM ORE, WHICH CONTAINS APPROXIMATELY 3,000 TO 5,000 METRIC TONS OF CADMIUM METAL. 1994 REPORTED RESOURCE OF 22 MILLION MT OF ORE.

Comments on other economic factors

  • THE DEPOSIT IS WORKED BY OPEN PIT MINING. THE PIT IS 4,500 METERS BY 3,000 METERS AND 400 METERS DEEP. BENCHES ARE 60 METERS WIDE AND THE OVERALL PIT-SLOPE IS 35 DEGREES. THE CUT-OFF GRADE IS 0.3 PERCENT COPPER. THE MINE IS SITUATED IN A DRY REGION OF UZBEKISTAN AND THE FLOW OF GROUNDWATER INTO THE PIT IS LESS THAN 200 LITERS PER SECOND. THERE ARE REPORTEDLY NO PROBLEMS WITH GROUNDWATER POLLUTION.
  • ALL OF THE ORE IS TRANSPORTED BY RAIL OR BY ROAD TO THE ALMALIC CONCENTRATOR, 2 KILOMETERS FROM THE MINE.
