Comments on the geologic information

  • THE SULFIDE-RICH ZONE IS OVERLAIN BY 25-30M OF OXIDES. THE MAX. DEPTH TO MINERALIZATION OF 360M IS USED TO CAL- CULATE THE AVG. DEPTH OF 192.5M(ALONG W/ MIN. DEPTH OF 25M). THE ORE ZONE IS LOCALIZED IN THE SOUTHERN CONTACT OF THE GRANODIORITE PORPHYRY OF THE KOUNRAD COMPLEX. ORE IS CONE- SHAPED AND OCCURS AS BRECCIA FILLINGS. CONE DIAMETER IS 300M AT THE SURFACE. RICH CU-MO ORES ARE CONCENTRATED IN THE STEEP PART AND POOR ORES ARE CONCENTRATED IN THE LIGHTLY SLOPING PART.

Comments on other economic factors

  • LAB TESTS INDICATE EXTRACTION RATES OF: KARATAS I- 82% CU, 75% MO; KARATAS IV- 88.1% CU, 83% MO; KARATAS II- 82% CU, 65% FE. PLANS CALL FOR THE NEED TO BUILD A 1-2 MMT PLANT TO PROCESS THE ORE. THIS WOULD REQUIRE CONSTRUCTION OF A RAILWAY LINE. AN ALTERNATIVE IS TO TRANSPORT THE ORE TO THE BALKHASH CONCENTRATOR, 100KM AWAY.

Deposit THIS DEPOSIT CONSISTS OF THREE AREAS SUITABLE FOR OPEN PIT MINING. THESE AREAS ARE DESIGNATED KARATAS #1, #2, & #4. THEY ARE LOCATED 100KM WEST OF BALKHASH, 40KM FROM THE BALKHASH RAILWAY. THE DEPOSITS ARE ABOUT 1KM APART. THERE IS NO TOWNSITE ESTABLISHED. THE MINE IS 40KM FROM THE NEAREST TOWN OF DZHAMBUL. KARATAS I REPRESENTS MO ORES AND ORE SUITABLE FOR UNDERGROUND MINING. KARATAS II & IV WOULD BE MINED BY OPEN PIT ME- THODS. OVERBURDEN COEFFICIENTS FOR THESE AREAS ARE 19 CU-M/MT AND 11 CU-M/MT, RESPECTIVELY. THE KARATAS IV SECTION IS MOST CONDUCIVE FOR EXPLORATION.
