Deposit THIS PLACER OPERATION, LOCATED IN THE ZHITOMIR REGION, BEGAN PRODUCTION OF ILMENITE AND RUTILE IN 1954. THERE ARE SEVEN DEPOSITS IN THIS COMPLEX INCLUDING THE STREMIGORODSK, LEMNENSK, VERKHNYAYA IRSHA, IRSHA, AND MEZHDURECHENSK DEPOSITS. THE LEMNENSK (PLACER III), VERKHNYAYA IRSHA (GATSKOVSK SECTION) , AND THE IRSHA (SHERSHNEVSK SECTION) DEPOSITS WERE BEING MINED IN 1994. THE LEMNENSK DEPOSIT IS GOING TO BE DEPLETED IN 1995, AND THERE ARE HOPES TO PUT THE MEZHDURECHENSK DEPOSIT IN PRODUCTION BY 1996. PRODUCTION LEVELS ARE ESTIMATED AT 250,000 TPA ILMENITE AND 30,000 TPA RUTILE CONCENTRATES. THE CONCENTRATES ARE SOLD TO BOTH THE METAL AND PIGMENT PROCESSING PLANTS. ILMENITE CONTENT VARIES FROM 5.5% TO 12%, AVERAGING 6.6%. OTHER AREAS OF POTENTIAL INCLUDE THE TORCHINSKOYE AND STREMIGORODSKOYE PLACERS.
