Deposit TUNGSTENIO DO BRASIL, AS A SUBSIDIARY OF UNION CARBIDE, BEGAN EXPLORATION OF THE BOCA DE LAGE DEPOSIT IN 1969. PRODUCTION BEGAN IN 1977 AND AN OUTPUT OF 450 TPY OF TUNGSTEN IN CONCENTRATES WAS PLANNED. A MAJOR EXPANSION WAS UNDERTAKEN IN 1982. IN LATE 1986, UNION CARBIDE AGREED TO SELL THE MINE AND MILL TO A BRAZILIAN SUBSIDIARY OF ANGLO AMERICAN. PRODUCTION HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY OF THE ORDER OF 500 TPA OF CONCENTRATES GRADING 73 OR 74% WO3. THE GRADE HAS BEEN GRADUALLY IMPROVING. (SEE ROSKILL IN BIBLIOGRAPHY).
