Comments on other economic factors

  • TRAINS FROM SEVERAL MINES CONVERGE AT AN ORE GRADING STOCKYARD. BAUXITE IS SIDE DUMPED INTO HAMMERMILLS AND REDUCED TO 85% MINUS 90 MM. ORE IS WASHED. IMPURITIES FROM CALCINE AND METAL GRADE FEEDS PASS THROUGH SCREEN AND ARE SENT TO FINES RECOVERY PLANT, TREATED IN HYDRO- CYCLONES AND MECHANICAL CLASSIFIERS TO SEPARATE ALUMINA FROM SILICA IMPURITIES. ALUMINA THEN TREATED IN FLOTATION CELLS. TO PRODUCE CALCINED REFRACTORY GRADE BAUXITE, OVERSIZED FROM THE WASHING SCREEN IS CRUSHED TO 40 MM, WASHED AGAIN AND SENT TO ROTARY KILNS TO REMOVE WATER. WHEN WASHING METAL GRADE ORE, OVERSIZE FROM SCREENS IS SENT 3.2 KM TO DRYING PLANT (ROTARY KILNS). AFTER DRYING ON CALCINING THE BAUXITE CAN BE EXPORTED. ALL MATERIAL FROM FINES PLANT AND SOME OF METAL GRADE BAUXITE IS SENT TO ALUMINA REFINERY. FEED FOR LINDEN REFINERY IS 75% ALUMINA CONCENTRATE FROM FINES PLANT, 15% IRON LATERITE, AND REMAINDER IS METAL GRADE BAUXITE DRIED AT BAUXITE PLANT. SMELTER FOR GUYANA IS IN PLANNING STAGES. DEVELOPMENT DEPENDS UPON CONSTRUCTION OF HYDROELECTRIC PLANT.
