  • A 6,000 M DIAMOND DRILLING PROGRAM HAS BEGUN WITH ASARCO GUYANE FRANCAISE SARL. THE PROGRAM WILL DELINEATE THE DEVIS AND PACTOLE GRANITIC INTRUSIVES WHICH HAVE SURFACE DIMENSION OF APPROX. 600 M BY 400 M AND 800 M BY 400 M, RESP., SEPARATED BY 400-500 M OF VOLCANICS. THE INTRUSIVES CONTAIN A GOLD STOCKWORK OF QUARTZ VEINING AND PYRITE. DEVIS AND PACTOLE WERE STUDIED BY SURFACE WORK OVER THE PAST YEAR WITH SOME 340 CHANNEL AND PANEL SEAMPLES YIELDING AN AVE GRADE OF 3G/T. IN ADDITION TO THE DEVIS AND PACTOLE INTRUSIVES, THERE ARE SEVEN OTHER MAJOR TARGETS, ALL OW WHICH HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED BY A COMBINATION OF REMOTE SENSING AND GROUND FOLLOW-UP. THE MOST ADVANCED OF THESE, MICHEL, HOSTS SHEAR-RELATED QUARTZ VEINS, YIELDING AN AVE GRADE OF 6.3G/T GOLD FROM 37 CHANNEL SAMPLES.

  • IN 1994, SOCIETE DES MINES DE SAINT ELIE SARL (SMSE) ACQUIRED, SUBJECT TO GOVT APPROVAL, A 100% INTERST IN THE ST. ELIE CONCESSION. BOTH ASARCO AND GUYANOR OWN A 50% INTEREST IN SMSE. ASARCO MUST COMPLETE A FEASIBILITY STUDY AND SPEND NOT LESS THAN US$10 MILLION BY SEP. 1, 2000 IN ORDER TO RETAIN ITS INTEREST. IN THE EVENT THAT THE AGGREGATE EXPENDITURES OF ASARCO TO COMPLETE A FEASIBILITY STUDY ARE LESS THAN US$10 MILLION, THE REMAINING BALANCE IS TO BE EXPENDED ON THE PROPERTY PRIOR TO GUYANOR HAVING TO CONTRIBUTE ITS PROPORTIONATE SHARE OF EXPENSES. GUYANOR IS A FRENCH, PUBLIC, EXPLORATOIN COMPANY IN WHICH GOLDEN STAR RESOURCES HAS APPROX. A 70% INTEREST.
