Subject category Comment text
Deposit THE KEONJHAR DISTRICT COVERS AN AREA OF ABOUT 500 SQ.KM CONTAINING ABOUT 200 INDIVIDUAL MINES AND PROSPECTS. THERE ARE 47 MAJOR LEASES IN THE AREA THAT COVER OVER 23,000 HECTARES. NEARLY ALL MINING AND BENIFICATION IS DONE BY HAND METHODS; MINOR MECHANIZATION IS USED IN SOME OF THE MAJOR MINES. THE ONLY DATA AVAILABLE ON DEMONSTATED RESOURCES IS RESTRICTED TO THE EXPOSED MATERIAL IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE OPERATING MINES, THE POSSIBLE EXTENSION OF THESE RESERVES HAVE NOT BEEN EXPLORED TO THE EXTENT THAT THEY CAN BE UPGRADED BEYOND THE INFERRED OR ESTIMATED CATEGORY. RESERVES AND RESOURCES OF INDIA HAVE NOT BEEN ADEQUATELY DEFINED. THE ONLY AVAILABLE DATA ON INDIVIDUAL MINE RESERVES REPRESENTS EXPOSED MATERIAL IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE OPERATING MINES, AND THUS IS INSIGNIFICANT. THE RESOUCES ASSIGNED TO INDIA (63 MT) REPRESENT ESTIMATES BASED ON GEOLOIC INFERENCE OVER BROAD AREAS. THESE RESOURCES ARE ARBITRARILY ASSIGNED TO THE MAHARASHTRA-MADYA PRADESH AREA (33 MT) AND THE KEONJHAR AREA (30 MT); THESE AREAS ACCOUNT FOR NEARLY 90% OF THE HIGH GRADE ORE PRODUCTION (MOST OF THIS IS FROM THE MAHARASHTRA-MADYA PRADESH AREA). FURTHER, RESERVES ARE NOT CATEGORIZED BY GRADE; PROBABLY LESS THAN HALF COULD BE UTILIZED IN THE PRODUCTION OF FEMN.
