Comments on the location information

  • The reference needs to be checked for this location. Original county name was Jefferson. However, lat/long plots 2.6 km inside adjacent Silver Bow county. PLSS and UTM coordinates agree with this location. The location is amidst the Butte mine tailings. No nearby Bear Gulch feature found in geonames. Bear Gulch exists much farther north in Jefferson county but there is little mining activity in the area and the nearest mines use a different reference. Another Bear Gulch is found to the south in Madison county and several records have the name Bear Gulch Placer but these records also use a different reference. So county name was changed to SIlver Bow but the reference should be checked.
