SOURCE: CALCULATIONS BASED ON RESERVE FIGURES GIVEN IN THE FOLLOWING REFERENCE: U.S. BUREAU OF MINES, AUGUST 1976, PRELIMINARY FEASIBILITY ESTIMATES OF PROPOSED ALABAMA AND CANADIAN CRYSTALLINE GRAPHITE PROJECTS RELATED TO THE U.S. MARKET: UNPUBLISHED REPORT BY THE MINERALS AVAILABILITY SYSTEM, SYSTEM OPERATIONS GROUP AND DOMESTIC EVALUATION GROUPS OF THE FOUR USBM FIELD OPERATIONS CENTERS, P. 11- 16, 23-25. IN ORDER TO HAVE ALL RESERVE TONNAGES AT THE SAME GRADE, THE INFERRED RESERVE HAD TO BE ADJUSTED FROM THE FIGURE GIVEN ABOVE. THE EQUATION USED FOLLOWS: (DEM.RES.)(DEM.GRA.) + (INF.RES.)(INF.GRA.) Q-P50 RES.= (DEM.GRA.) Q-P50 RESERVE = 2,249,946MT (ROUNDED TO 2,250,000MT).
  • THE EVALUATION SHOULD CONSIDER THE EIGHT PROPERTIES EVALUATED IN THE SEPTEMBER 1976 GRAPHITE REPORT - SOUTHWESTERN GRAPHITE, LILLIE TEMPLETON , LOUISE TEMPLETON, LOGAN TEMPLETON, TEXAS GRAPHITE, FITZSIMMONS, ROBINSON STATE PARK, DEBO-GARRET-DORBANT AREA. THIS DEPOSIT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE GRAPHITE AVAILABILITY STUDY

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit THE SOUTHWESTERN GRAPHITE MINE CONSISTS OF THREE SEPARATE OREBODIES LYING ALONG A STRATUM OF GRAPHITE SCHIST. FOR PURPOSES OF EVALUATION, THESE OREBODIES ARE TREATED AS A SINGLE RESERVE. THE LIMITED AMOUNT OF MINING EQUIPMENT PROPOSED (WHICH WAS BASED ON THE ACTUAL AMOUNT OF EQUIPMENT CURRENTLY ON SITE) PRECLUDES THE POSSIBILITY OF MINING MORE THAN ONE OREBODY AT A TIME. THE OREBODY GRADES ARE SIMILAR ENOUGH, HOWEVER, SO THAT NO CHANGES IN CONCENTRATE GRADE WOULD BE ANTICIPATED AS A RESULT OF MINING A DIFFERENT OREBODY. INFORMATION ON THE PROPERTY IS SKETCHY. THE PARENT COMPANY (JOSEPH DIXON CRUCIBLE CO., INC.) REFUSED TO RELEASE ANY DATA ON THE PROPERTY FOR REASONS OF COMPANY POLICY. MOST OF THE DATA USED WERE FROM TWO USBM STUDIES OF THE MINE DONE IN 1976.
